Under 'Giving items', in the first heading, earlier it screens out superior and inferior: 'The Vinaya does not discuss' points to the text being diffuse. 'If one does not know...', etc., is determined by principle; this is spoken for now with regard to having many robes; if there are only the three articles, whether complete or deficient, they are given to him. The phrase 'Daśādhyāya-vinaya under...' next explains careful investigation: 'inquiring first' means the caretaker of the sick inquires of the patient; 'not believing' means the caretaker is untrustworthy. The phrase 'Sarvāstivāda under...' thirdly explains heavy robes: if unstitched, they do not enter, because they are not a single body. The phrase 'Dharmaguptaka-vinaya under...' shows the number of items: whether the water-strainer bag and needle-case are present or absent differs; whatever is present is universally included. Utensils, bundles, bags, and the like all accompany the six items and are universally entered into the reward for labor.
