In the inquiry on 'non-robes': The Precept Commentary says: 'Formerly it was said to be like banners and canopies, and some said like leather shoes and bowl-bags, which is also incorrect; furthermore, it is traditionally said to be of the sort of caps and socks.' The ancients mostly had narrow understandings, hence the inquiry resolves it. In the answer: the first phrase generally marks it. From 'Text' onward, it cites and shows it. From 'Now' onward, it gives the direct answer. Expounding comprehensively means what was itemized above; whether materials not yet made into robes, or mutual perspectives between monks and nuns, both can be gathered in; hence it says 'both are subsumed.'
