Under 'Substance of Lifetime Medicines,' in the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: 'Harītakī' is what is nowadays called hezi. 'Simultaneous acceptance' means that multiple medicines may receive a single additional formal acceptance at one time. In the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya, the upper phrase indicates the topic; 'First...' below explains it. Because the substances of these medicines are numerous and cannot be separately enumerated, merely summarizing that the six flavors cannot serve as food encompasses all without omission. 'Rèn' means fit or capable. In the Samantapāsādikā, first it defines the substance in terms of principle. 'Furthermore...' below distinguishes and identifies them in contrast to timely [medicines], first clarifying mutual admixture. 'Only...' below makes the definitive determination.
