3.363

結法中，初文。疏云：以道寄清修，食緣繁雜；俗中節士，尚遠庖厨；況出世人，奄蒙庸僕，誠不可也。制在邊鄙，又居幽靜，意可知也。文中但云伽藍，恐謂通於自然，故注簡之。

In "Methods of Binding," the first text. The Commentary states: "Because the Way relies on pure cultivation, while conditions of food are manifold and chaotic; even restrained scholars in the secular world keep their distance from the kitchen; how much more so world-renouncing persons—to be covered and darkened like menial servants would truly be unacceptable. The prohibition [requires kitchens to be set] on the outer fringes, and moreover situated in seclusion, so the intention can be known." In the text it only mentions a saṃghārāma, and fearing that one might think it extends to natural [boundaries], the interlinear note therefore discriminates it.
