In [the section on] preparing it oneself: second, lighting lamps and rubbing feet, because they are not for consumption, in principle do not involve additional verbal reception. (Ancient [masters] said that oil eliminates wind, and rubbing it on the feet allows one to walk on water; it was frequently used in Western India.) Below, the source is indicated; in principle, it must be followed. Third, marking: its use or abandonment is unfixed, hence the note indicates it. In the fourth, the note explains the meaning of successive stages. Oil and honey do not alter, and having been boiled do not lose [their nature], which is why the text only distinguishes raw and clarified butter. That one may boil it oneself is because raw butter has already been cooked previously and is not raw changing [into cooked]. The two cookings are the aforementioned self and other. Based on original raw butter, when the limit is reached there is touch, and when the flavor alters the reception is lost, the matter becomes identical to a new item; upon receiving it again and taking hold of it, it thus does not constitute touch. Below, the Abhidharmamahāvibhāṣā-śāstra is cited as counter-proof, which can be understood.
