In verbal reception: first, showing whether it is valid or not. "Not according with the potency of the medicine" explains the above "not making it two days." "Properly discussed from the perspective of the method" explains the above "further adding seven days." Below, texts are cited as proof: both the Mahāsāṃghika[-vinaya] and the Tattvasiddhi-śāstra prove that from the sixth day onward, one cannot add it again. In the Mahāsāṃghika[-vinaya], because a sick bhikṣu was fatigued by seeking a pure person day after day, the Buddha asked a physician, "For how many days may a bhikṣu store medicine and be at ease?" The reply is as cited in the Transactions Manual. Pointing above to accidental touch refers to the section on protecting purity, also a text from the Mahāsāṃghika[-vinaya]; this clarifies loss through touch, showing that there is re-reception. "Obstinate illness" refers to severe illness.
