In determining and receiving, there are two parts: First, the *Daśādhyāya-vinaya* is cited for the face-to-face method. Saying "according to measure" clarifies that it conforms to the Dharma; its substance and color are rarely confused, but its grade and measure frequently deviate, so this is specifically pointed out. Alternatively, "measure" refers to the scriptural measure, encompassing all three types; all must conform to the Dharma before one may receive and maintain them. Saying "regularly used" shows the intent of the reception; robes are worn constantly, whereas bowls are used only at specific times; hence these words are added so that one recalls and maintains it without forgetting. From the *Samantapāsādikā* onward, it next cites the method of mental intention. The text follows the above, merely removing the face-to-face address of the opening sentence. From the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya* onward, it indicates transfer and exchange. This refers to keeping two bowls without anyone to declare purification to; therefore, within ten days, alternately exchanging receiving and relinquishing them avoids the offense of keeping an extra bowl, as explained in the chapter on "The Two Robes."
