行護中，初科三段，雜明敬護，誠絕非用。《十誦》。一心，謂專意也。日炙津出，為損色故。《母論》。一切處者，唯除中齋，遮斷餘用。目睛為比，誡令極護。《五分》，初示護法。若下，避非。煖湯，謂沸湯，亦損色故；或是將燒湯洗物，即非用故。得罪，並制吉羅。

In caring for and protecting [the bowl], the first section has three paragraphs, miscellaneous clarifications on respectful protection, strictly precluding improper use. In the *Daśādhyāya-vinaya*: "one mind" refers to focused attention. Sun drying causes moisture to seep out, which damages the color. In the *Mātṛkā*: "all places" means, with the sole exception of the midday meal, precluding all other uses. Using the pupil of the eye as an analogy admonishes that one protect it to the utmost. In the *Mahiśāsaka-vinaya*, first it indicates the method of protection. From "If" onward, it avoids faults. "Warm broth" refers to boiling water, which also damages the color; or it refers to taking hot water to wash objects, which is improper use. Incurring an offense: both are regulated as duṣkṛtas.
