In the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, the first [passage] explains mutual giving between monks and nuns. An illegitimate gift is an offense of the bhikṣu, because it is improper to give it to a nun. Illegitimate acceptance is an offense shared by both monks and nuns. Illegitimate use is an offense of the nun. Alternatively, both illegitimate acceptance and use may pertain to the nun. The text from "If a room" onwards admonishes those in charge against acting arbitrarily. "Taking from one and giving to another" is spoken with reference to persons; this means that as long as the dānapati is still alive, one may only let the person watch over it; one must not follow partial feelings and treat it as one's own property, rashly giving or taking it away, in order to protect the giver's intention. The text from "Repair" onwards explains rewarding merit. Making a new one is the same as before; repairing an old one is reduced by half, because of the amount of labor.
