In the third [section], the first two characters inquire into accord and violation above. The text from "Greed" onwards reveals the mental practice; the first two lines explain that greed and aversion arise from the mind. Attachment gives rise to greed, while restraint brings no defilement. The lower two lines reveal that it is fundamentally not the external object. This explains that the mind's delusion or revulsion does not stem from whether the food is fine or foul, as the Dàzhìdù lùn says: An old woman sold white marrow cakes. A brāhmaṇa greedily ate his fill of them. Later, they had neither color nor flavor, so he asked her about it. The old woman said, "My mistress developed an ulcer on a private part, which we treated with flour, ghee, and licorice. When the ulcer ripened and pus came out, we mixed it together to make the cakes, which is why the cakes were delicious. Now the mistress's ulcer has healed, which is why the cakes have neither color nor flavor." Upon hearing this, the brāhmaṇa vomited. "Indulging the mind" refers to greed and attachment; "restraining the will" refers to counteraction. The two lines from "That which" onwards conclude by indicating cause and effect. Wholesome and unwholesome are the causes; ascending and sinking refer to the effects. "Within the bosom" and "square inch" both refer to the mind, meaning the mind is in the body's four square inches. The text from "This" onwards is an admonition. "Timely conditions" refers to the offerings. "Deep net" refers either to the category of offenses or serves as a metaphor for the paths of suffering.
