3.545

指諸文中，上指果報。彼明僧護比丘遊海邊，見諸鬼受苦五十六修；其間多是迦葉佛時，比丘妄受信施，非用僧物，故受斯報；經有一卷，自可尋之。下指治法。遍在諸文，大略同上，故不繁引。

In pointing to various texts, the upper part points to karmic retribution. That text explains that the bhikṣu Saṃgharakṣita traveled to the seashore and saw various pretas suffering fifty-six kinds of cultivation; among them, most were bhikṣus in the time of Kāśyapa Buddha who falsely received gifts of faith and improperly used Saṃgha property, hence suffering this retribution. The sūtra is in one fascicle, which one may consult for oneself. The lower part points to the methods of counteraction. They are everywhere in the various texts and largely the same as above, hence they are not cited at length.
