In the next section, the first two lines follow upon the preceding to introduce what follows. The words "equivalent to" mean that the above four requisites all sustain the body. The three requisites of lodging, robes, and medicine are used rarely, whereas food is used frequently. "Arises" refers to the mind arising in relation to an object. From "Food" below, it directly explains the faults of eating; first it describes the faults. "Orderly" (整) is like regulating. As for calling it "difficult," it is either formulated on the basis of the present text's rules, or refers to spurring on cultivation when confronting objects; both senses are admissible. From "If" below, it urges once more: first it directly urges; from "Now" below, it reveals the non-conformities; from "Therefore" below, it cites to demonstrate. "Spurring the mind's seat" means not letting it be loose or indolent. "Altering one's conduct" means reforming one's old habits. When worms are born, they mostly depend on filthy places; on clean places like massive rocks, few are seen to be born. This relies on the place of retribution to make evident their past causes.
