3.562

四中，初總標。正者簡無他意，事猶用也；正欲事同服藥，為療形苦耳。為下，別釋，初對二病。故病謂常有故，亦名主病，以常存故。次二譬中。初如下引，膏字去呼。次出《涅槃》。

In the fourth, first it marks generally. "Properly" screens out other intentions. "Applying" (事) is like using; one properly wishes that applying it be the same as taking medicine, merely to treat physical suffering. From "To" below, it explains distinctively: first it responds to the two illnesses. "Old illness" refers to what is constantly present; it is also called the primary illness because it constantly exists. Next, in the two similes: the first is as cited below, "grease" (膏) being pronounced in the departing tone. The next comes from the *Nirvāṇa-sūtra*.
