In the fourth, the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: First, the origin is cited. From "The Buddha..." onward clarifies the establishment of the teaching; the first sentence sets down the regulation. From "Should..." onward teaches cultivation. Thinking means cultivating contemplation. Because it is not explained here, it directs [the reader] to what comes later, namely, within the four postures in the chapter "Host and Guest" (or it points to the three contemplations in the chapter "Śrāmaṇera"). In the Mahāprajñāpāramitōpadeśa: First, it praises the method of sitting. From "Seeking..." onward admonishes against sleep. The "great matter" refers to the holy Path. "To lie in wait" means to watch for an opportunity. That is, the sūtra says: "Do not, through the cause and condition of sleep, let an entire life pass in vain with nothing attained." It also says: "The thieves of affliction constantly lie in wait to kill people, worse than personal enemies; how can one sleep without waking oneself to vigilance?" and so forth. From "If..." onward teaches the method of lying down. "The ribs not touching the mat" refers to reclining while leaning.
