In directly clarifying the marks of reverence and rebuking errors, it first describes the obligation of reverence. 'We' generally refers to the final age. Revering images as the real Buddha, and revering sūtras as the real Dharma, is therefore called 'viewing them equally'. From 'now' onward directly rebukes, again in four [parts]: first, pointing out errors. From 'all' onward shows the reason: the first clause is lack of wisdom, the next clause is lack of faith, and the third is lack of discernment; because of lacking these three, one does not keep to proper etiquette, hence it says 'undermining the great principles'. From 'or' onward sets forth the marks of error. The text describes many matters, which do not go beyond the three karmas. 'Baring' (*rang*) means rolling up one's sleeves to expose the arms. 'Dread' (*dan*) means hardship. From 'resulting in' onward clarifies the conditions of fault.
