In the fourth [part], the first section has two parts: the former encourages reverent service to Dharma requisites. The quarters used must constantly and diligently be kept clean and secluded; the arranged images, incense, and lamps must always be dignified and pure, and so forth. "Then..." below next encourages collecting the mind and being mindful of the Dharma. Shaving and dyeing: one must be mindful of one's appearance—what was the original aim? It is just as the sūtra says, "one should touch one's own head," and so forth. The precept-essence: one must be mindful of the reception-essence, not violating the original vow; it is just as the sūtra says, "mindful of the dharmas received," and so forth. The principle of karma is subtle and obscure, and the world is full of falseness and confusion, hence it is called "the true import." "Comings and goings, and so forth": one should be mindful that the noble Dharma has come; this means that in the four deportments and four requisites, one follows the exceptions and prohibitions in all cases, allowing no reckless action. Once the Saṃgha cultivates within, the laity will surely increase their reverence.
