六中，初指誤。必下，改正。注分二字。下赴上者，謂奔趍而往。上訃下者，謂言詞允許；若作趍赴，義似不尊；令書言訃，欲彰大度。訃至也。（今時字書，告喪曰訃，即凶訃字。雖是祖訓，不可用之，亦隨時之義也。）此下，顯意。苟有所不知，則令俗輕道；雖小而大，誠有所補。高望謂德望高遠也。然恐後世忽為小事，仍引諺語證之；諺，謂傳世常言，不稽典者。初句謂暫借他物，應念即時還之；次句謂貸取人財，須思早覓償之。言鄙陋者，謂雖世俗常事；苟有違者，甚失君子之行，故云廉恥本也。（《指歸》云：此出《郗嘉賓要覽》中文，彼作羊太傅云：故知人語也。時償彼作早償，鄙陋作輕小。）

In the sixth [heading], it first points out the error. From 'Must...' onward, it makes the correction. The interlinear note distinguishes the two characters. An inferior going to a superior (赴) means hastening and going there. A superior responding to an inferior (訃) means verbally granting permission. If one were to write it as 'hastening toward' (赴), the meaning would seem insufficiently dignified; having them write '訃' aims to manifest broad magnanimity. '訃' means to arrive. (In contemporary dictionaries, announcing a bereavement is called '訃', which is the character for funeral announcements. Although this was the Patriarch's instruction, it should not be used, which also conforms to the principle of adapting to the times.) From 'This...' onward, the intention is revealed. If there is something one does not know, it causes laypeople to look down on the monastic path; though small, it is great, and genuinely of help. 'High reputation' refers to moral virtue and reputation being lofty and far-reaching. However, fearing future generations would neglect this as a minor matter, he further cites a proverb as proof. A proverb refers to a common saying handed down through generations that does not cite the classics. The first phrase means that when temporarily borrowing another's item, one should immediately think of returning it; the next phrase means that when borrowing another's wealth, one must think of quickly finding the means to repay it. Saying it is 'crude and low' means that although these are ordinary worldly matters, if one violates them, it greatly damages the conduct of a noble person; hence it is called the 'root of integrity and shame.' (The Zhigui says: This comes from the text of Xi Jiabin's Yaolan, where he attributes it to Senior Tutor Yang; thus we know it is a human saying. 'Timely repayment' is written there as 'early repayment,' and 'crude and low' is written as 'light and small.')
