In the fifth [section], regarding the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya*, first the sthavira scolds and stops [them]. The 'holy vinaya' refers to the Buddha's precepts; because the saṃghāvaśeṣa precepts stipulate that upon entering a layperson's house one must not play or laugh, but must be quiet. *Yin* (齗) is pronounced with the fanqie *yu-jin*; it is the flesh at the roots of the teeth. 'Impermanence and so forth' refers to the four foundations of mindfulness; 'the contemplation of death and so forth' refers to the nine contemplations [of a corpse]. Below 'From...', next it instructs the other people to restrain themselves. 'Snapping grass' means taking dry grass and snapping it in one's hand. Below 'The meaning...', an equivalent determination is made: based on the scolding and prohibition above, they are admonished to be careful and circumspect.
