In 'Patching and Mending', the first section cites the *Daśādhyāya-vinaya*. It distinguishes maintenance and violation based on stitching and sewing. 'Two offenses' refers to pāyattika for not verbally purifying it, and duṣkṛta for not marking it for purification. In the *Mātṛkā*, first, sewing an unpurified [cloth] onto an already purified one: because what is relied upon has the legal status, it gathers what relies upon it. From 'If' onward, next, sewing an already purified [cloth] onto an unpurified one: because what relies upon it has the legal status, it taints what is relied upon. The above explains purity through the combination of robes; that treatise further has purity through the combination of colors, hence it says 'applies to both kinds'. The *Karmavācanā* commentary cites: 'If the color is non-dharmic, but sewn onto what is dharmic, this is called purity through the combination of colors, and does not require separate purification' (meaning it is not marked for purification again). The treatise text only says 'sewn onto'; the note directs that it be understood consistently with the *Daśādhyāya-vinaya* above.
