Under Specific Explanations, the first section: In the Three Thousand [Deportments], squatting is explained. Crossing the feet means crossing left and right over each other; erecting both means the toes point upwards; leaning back means turning backward; shaking means oscillating; propping up means one foot rests on the ground while propping up one foot extending straight forward; raising the foot means cocking one foot up. Next it explains five things, which should apply to both ways of sitting; "not leaning forward" means supporting oneself on the bed with both hands. The Mātṛkā explains cross-legged sitting. Jiǎn (to check) should be written as liǎn (to gather).
