敘意中，初科，上二句示位。此中須分形法二同，若但剃髮，名形同沙彌；若受十戒，名法同沙彌。次二句明本志。上句言其始，下句示其終。玄藉，通目佛教；處遠，直指佛果。復次二句，示律可依。後二句，斥世無訓。

In recounting the intent: the first section, the upper two lines indicate the position. Here one must distinguish between the two kinds of conformity—form and Dharma: if one only shaves the hair, one is called a śrāmaṇera conforming in form; if one receives the ten precepts, one is called a śrāmaṇera conforming in Dharma. The next two lines clarify the fundamental aspiration. The upper line speaks of its beginning, and the lower line indicates its end. 'Profound texts' generally refers to the Buddhist teachings; 'dwelling far' directly points to the fruit of Buddhahood. The next two lines indicate that the Vinaya can be relied upon. The final two lines denounce the world for lacking instruction.
