In the extensive explanation, in the query of the Dazhidulun: for one who abides in the true mark, the mind merges with the wondrous principle; being empty and lacking anything existent, they do not apprehend a single dharma. Since nothing is apprehended, there is neither good nor evil; since there is neither good nor evil, there is neither maintaining nor breaking; since there is neither maintaining nor breaking, there are no precepts; since there are no precepts, one should act as one pleases and need not guard the precepts. Because there are many wrong views in the world, the question is posed to resolve this. In the answer, it uses merit to illustrate offenses. "Not performing merit" means not grasping the marks of merit, hence it says "does not perform." "Various causes and conditions" refers to skillful means in transforming and guiding; because whatever actions are undertaken are all free of faults.
