Listing conditions. In the second, there are three different kinds, any one of which constitutes a violation. The note to the precept says: phrase meaning, phrase flavor, and character meaning. The explanation says: phrase meaning refers to reciting together, neither ahead nor behind. (The Commentary says reciting gāthās together; here it extends to prose, where meaning is fully seen when the text is completed, hence called phrase meaning.) Phrase flavor refers to "eyes are impermanent," etc. (under one phrase, the principle and flavor are naturally complete); character meaning refers to reciting the letter "a" together (such as reciting dhāraṇīs). Matching these three kinds with the three characters in the conditions contains a minor reversal. The fourth refers to taking from what precedes to recite together when conferring the Dharma.
