彼作新坐具時，若故者未壞、未有穿孔，當取浣染治之，牽挽令舒，裁取方一磔手，揲著新者上，若揲邊、中央，以壞色故也。

When he makes a new sitting-mat, if the old one is not yet decayed and has no holes, he should wash, dye, and prepare it, stretch and smooth it out, cut out a square of one span, and patch it onto the new one, either along the border or in the center, in order to spoil the appearance.
