佛在舍衛。六群、十七群同道行，至小住處。十七群於先入寺，掃灑令淨。六群知得好處，驅起牽出。比丘以過白佛，便制此戒。

(The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. The group-of-six and the group-of-seventeen were traveling on the same road and arrived at a small dwelling place. The group-of-seventeen entered the monastery first, swept and sprinkled water to clean it. The group-of-six, knowing that they had obtained a good place, drove them up and dragged them out. The bhikṣus reported the offense to the Buddha, who thereupon formulated this precept.)
