佛在羅閱祇。竹園有池，瓶沙王聽比丘常在中浴。六群後夜入池浴，王與婇女詣池相值，王竟不浴，大臣嫌恚。比丘白佛，因訶制戒。

The Buddha was in Rājagṛha. In the Bamboo Grove there was a pond, and King Bimbisāra permitted the bhikṣus to bathe in it regularly. During the last watch of the night, the group of six entered the pond to bathe. The king and his court ladies arrived at the pond and encountered them; the king did not end up bathing, and the ministers were displeased and angry. The bhikṣus reported [this] to the Buddha, who thereupon rebuked [them] and laid down the precept.
