佛在舍衛。毘舍佉母送雨浴衣，佛言：「不得分，隨上座與。不足者，僧次續付。」六群大作，比丘舉過，佛因制戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. The mother Viśākhā sent rainy-season bathing cloths. The Buddha said: "They are not to be distributed [equally]; give them in order according to seniority. If there are not enough, they shall be given continuously in order of the saṃgha." The group-of-six made them oversized. The bhikṣus reported the fault, and the Buddha thereupon formulated the precept.
