始從四重，終此七滅諍，八篇之文，廣教正宗也。皆謂犯「略」制「廣」，補其行教，有當機益。

Beginning from the four gravest offenses and ending with these seven rules for settling legal disputes, the texts of the eight divisions constitute the main body of the expanded teaching. In all cases it is said that upon offenses against the ‘abbreviated [teaching],’ the ‘expanded [teaching]’ was formulated, supplementing its practice and doctrine to benefit those matching the capacity.
