Herein, for walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, each makes a number of permutations, and the offense of having a satisfied meal is as in the Vinaya. As for khādanīya food, there are root, branch, leaf, flower, fruit, oil, sesame, jaggery, and finely ground powdered foods. When that bhikṣu has had a satisfied meal, without performing the procedure for leftover food, if he obtains and eats it, with each swallow he commits a prāyaścittika. If, having eaten, he performs it for another; if knowing the other has had a satisfied meal, he performs it; if he performs it holding the food in his own hand; if he performs it placing the food on the ground; if he has a lay attendant perform it; if he performs it before a lay attendant; if he performs it covering the top with poor-quality food; or if he carries it away—none of these constitutes the procedure for leftover food, and is a duṣkṛta. The four assemblies including bhikṣuṇīs commit a duṣkṛta. Exceptions: thinking of food as non-food; not receiving the procedure for leftover food; and the reverse of the above proscriptions; if ill, not performing the procedure; not performing the procedure for leftover food on the leftovers of a sick person; if the procedure for leftover food has already been performed, there is no offense.
