Eighty-first, the precept on entering a royal palace without a cause. 'A kṣatriya king of the anointed-head royal lineage': 'kṣatriya' refers to the royal caste among the four castes. 'Anointed-head royal lineage' means that from his ancestors onward, whenever ascending the royal throne, they have water poured on their heads; this is the lineage of this king. Further, 'king' refers to the king of this lineage. That is, when ascending the throne, a great brahmin who understands well the four Vedas is invited to serve as the king's preceptor; he takes water from the four oceans and pours it over the crown of the king's head, symbolising the auspicious governance of the four oceans; hence he is called an 'anointed king' (mūrdhābhiṣikta). 'Not yet emerged' refers to the time when the king is enjoying himself with his court ladies and has not yet come out of the private chambers, and the court ladies have not yet returned to their usual quarters. 'Not yet hidden the treasure': according to the precept on having precious things above, a man regards a woman as a treasure; thus we know the court ladies are what the king treasures. Just as with the seven treasures, when this treasure of court ladies has not yet been concealed, a bhikṣu entering rashly commits an offence. 'Threshold of the door': in the ninth fascicle of the Sarvāstivāda-śāstra, it is a single crossbeam in front of the outer gate of the royal palace. If there are compelling conditions such as being invited, summoned, or danger to life or religious practice (brahmacarya), there is no offence.
