（佛言：「不得合河水結，除常有舡、橋梁者。又不得二界相接，應留中間。」《五分》云：「不唱方相，結界不成。」律文少略，應如是唱相：）

(The Buddha said: "One must not bind [a boundary] across river water, except where there are permanent boats or bridges. Furthermore, two boundaries must not abut each other; an intermediate space should be left." The Mahīśāsaka-vinaya states: "If one does not proclaim the markers of the directions, the binding of the boundary is not accomplished." The vinaya text is somewhat abbreviated; one should proclaim the markers thus:)
