(The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: "If one is seeking medicine, robes, or food for a sick person, or acting on behalf of a stūpa or the saṃgha, even though one is not present at the time, a share should still be given." The Samantapāsādikā states: "If a bhikṣu from outside the boundary enters, he must also be given a share"—this refers to during the karman. In the Vinaya: "If there is a bhikṣu without conscious intent, or acting as a separate faction, the distribution of robes is not effected." Furthermore, in a present donation, one may share equally with śrāmaṇeras and pure attendants, either equal or half, distinguished as before. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: "If a bhikṣu has robes and bowls entrusted to a nun, and upon his death a bhikṣu seeks them, the first to see them distributes them." If one dies in a white-robed layperson's house, lightweight property is distributed among whatever five classes are present, while heavyweight property is entrusted to a temple with the saṃgha's Dharma, regardless of distance. If there are no members of the five classes, the Vinaya bids faithful and joyful dānapatis to guard and manage it. If none of the five classes arrives, it should be sent to the saṃgha of a nearby saṃghārāma. The rest is as in the Commentary.)
