(The Buddha said: "If one commits an offense involving a robe subject to relinquishment and forfeiture, one must not send it to be given to someone to make the three robes, to make an auxiliary robe, to use as frequently worn clothing, or to give by formal purification; one must relinquish it, and only then perform purification. This niḥsargika robe should be relinquished to the saṃgha, to a group of many persons, or to a single person; it must not be relinquished to a factional assembly. If relinquished [to a faction], it does not constitute relinquishment, and one incurs a duṣkṛta." Thus one knows there are three methods of repentance. Moreover, offenses pertain to both the saṃgha and individuals, and the boundaries are divided into two places; all should be carefully considered.)
