"Good woman, listen closely! The Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Fully and Perfectly Awakened One has spoken four similes. If one commits the eight acts, it is like a severed human head that cannot be reattached, like a severed heart of a palm tree that will not grow again, like a broken eye of a needle that can no longer be used, and like a great stone split into two that cannot be joined back together. If a bhikṣuṇī commits the eight grave offences, she can never again attain the practice of a bhikṣuṇī. In this, to the end of your life you must not commit violation. Are you able to maintain it?" (She replies:) "I am able."
