與憶念毘尼法（時諸比丘實不犯重罪波羅夷、僧伽婆尸沙、偷蘭遮，諸比丘皆言犯重罪。問言：「汝憶犯重罪不？」彼不憶犯，答言：「我不憶犯如是罪。」即語諸比丘言：「長老！莫數詰問我。」諸比丘故詰問不止。佛言：「聽僧為作憶念毘尼白四羯磨。」乞作如文。）

Procedure for granting the Mindfulness Vinaya (smṛti-vinaya): (At that time, when bhikṣus had not in fact committed a grave offense—pārājika, saṃghāvaśeṣa, or sthūlātyaya—other bhikṣus all claimed they had committed a grave offense. They asked him, saying: "Do you remember committing a grave offense or not?" He did not remember committing it, and answered, saying: "I do not remember committing such an offense." He then said to the bhikṣus: "Venerables! Do not repeatedly interrogate me." The bhikṣus nonetheless persisted in interrogating him without ceasing. The Buddha said: "I allow the saṃgha to perform a jñapticaturtha-karman of the Mindfulness Vinaya for him." The petition and enactment are as in the text.)
