Rules for the conduct of an upādhyāyikā. (An upādhyāyikā should regard her disciple as her own daughter, and the disciple should regard her upādhyāyikā as her own mother, mutually respecting and looking after one another. In this way, the True Dharma will remain long, growing and spreading. The procedure for requesting is as above. It also says: One who has not reached twelve years of standing should not confer the full ordination on others. Furthermore, rules for the upādhyāyikā have been established, and she should act as follows: If the saṃgha intends to perform against her disciple one of the seven karmans such as the tarjanīya-karman, the upādhyāyikā should handle the matter in accordance with the Dharma so that the saṃgha does not perform the karman against the disciple; if it is performed, she should ensure that it is done in accordance with the Dharma. Furthermore, if the saṃgha has performed against her disciple one of the seven karmans such as the tarjanīya-karman, the upādhyāyikā should handle the matter in accordance with the Dharma so that the disciple obeys the saṃgha without defiance, seeks the removal of the offence, and causes the saṃgha to swiftly revoke the karman. Furthermore, if a disciple commits a saṃghāvaśeṣa, the upādhyāyikā should handle the matter in accordance with the Dharma: if mānāpya should be granted, it should be granted, up to and including rehabilitation. Furthermore, if a disciple falls ill, the upādhyāyikā must care for her, or have another person look after her, until she recovers or passes away. If the disciple is unhappy with her dwelling place, she must move her herself or instruct someone to move her. If the disciple has doubts, she should dispel them in accordance with the Dharma, the vinaya, and the Buddha's teachings. If evil views arise, she should teach her to discard evil views and abide in correct views. She must protect and care for her in two matters: through the Dharma, and through clothing and food. Caring through the Dharma means she should teach the higher training in morality, the higher training in mind, and the higher training in wisdom, and teach her to study and recite sūtras. Caring through clothing and food means she should provide clothing, food, beds, bedding, and medicine for sickness, preparing them according to her ability. From now on, the rules for upādhyāyikās are established thus. An upādhyāyikā should follow them; if she does not, she shall be dealt with in accordance with the Dharma.)
