Fifteenth, the precept against deviant teaching: it is established because it causes people to lose the right path. All seven assemblies commit the offense alike; the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna do not share it, because what they practice is different. The narration of matters has three stages: first, adducing the persons who should be taught: "one's own disciples of the Buddha" refers to the internal assembly; "non-Buddhists" refers to external assemblies; "six kinds of relatives and good spiritual friends" applies to both internal and external. Second, explaining what is proper: one should teach the Mahāyāna sūtras and vinaya, causing them to arouse the bodhicitta. The "ten minds" means the arousal of the ten minds of aspiration; the "vajra minds" refers to the ten vajra [minds], while the ten nourishing [minds] are omitted in this brief account. These thirty are what beginners urgently need, so one should disclose them to them. Third, explaining what is not proper: one should not, with an evil mind, teach the two vehicles, non-Buddhist scriptures, and the like. If one sees an occasion to benefit beings, there is no offense.
