Seventh, the precept against indolently failing to listen to the Dharma: the intention behind this prescription is the same as the previous one. The narration of matters has three sections: first, there is a place where the Dharma is being explained; second, what is proper; third, what is not proper. The term "vinaya sūtras and vinaya" refers to the vinaya sūtras and vinaya of the Mahāyāna, not the vinaya within the Tripiṭaka. Mahāyāna sūtras have the sense of eradicating evil, and are therefore called vinaya. When others have already requested a discourse to be delivered there, it is the rule that one should go to listen; yet if out of indolence one does not go, each day is a minor defilement infraction. In the Bodhisattvabhūmi, if there is a place where the Dharma is taught and one does not listen or go out of an angry or arrogant mind, one incurs an offense. The Upāsaka-śīla-sūtra sets no restriction within a distance of one yojana.
