Eighth, regarding the explanation of the text, there are three parts: First, an evil view of a pure object; 2. Deficiencies that constitute a fault; 3. Intentional action constituting the offense. In the first part, because of a mind of destruction, slander, and jealousy of excellence, it says 'an evil mind.' 'Seeing a precept-keeping monk' refers to one who does not violate the major or minor precepts. 'Holding incense in hand,' and so forth, is the deportment of practicing the path. Second, from 'yet inciting quarrels and instigating' downward, inciting and slandering constitute the fault, meaning stirring up quarrels and conflicts to make both sides contend and dispute. Despising them with an evil mind is 'deceiving'; speaking of faults with false words is 'slandering'; slandering this one to that one and that one to this one, mutually relaying two slanders, causes quarrels and evil to arise from this, hence it says 'there is no evil not committed.' Third, from 'if intentionally done' downward intentionally commits it to conclude the offense, which can be understood.
