Seventh, the beginning and end of the characteristics of transgression. Herein there are three patterns: 1. The beginning; 2. The end; 3. Based on the middle. Here, the transgression of sexual misconduct is based on the beginning: entering as little as the tip of a hair is immediately adjudicated as an offense, not waiting for ejaculation or pleasure. The transgression of killing is based on the end: it requires the severing of life before it is adjudicated. The remainder are based on the middle, as when stealing moves [the object] from its original place, although it has already constituted a transgression, one has not yet enjoyed its use, and so forth. The rest can be understood by analogy. There is an opinion: stinginess and anger are also transgressed in terms of the beginning, because as soon as a thought arises, one transgresses.
