Eighth, regarding the practices of counteraction: The bodhisattva contemplates: 'I ought to bestow luminous wisdom and correct practice upon sentient beings; how can I instead give them drinks of stupor and madness, causing them to commit grave offenses? This is utterly impermissible.' Briefly explaining ten matters that should be given to sentient beings: 1. I should bestow worldly wisdom, causing them to recognize the etiquette of superiors and inferiors, or cultivate practices of filial piety and righteousness, etc. 2. I should cause them to have deep faith in the Three Jewels and cultivate practices of reverence and making offerings, etc. 3. I should cause them to clearly understand the karmic fruits of good and evil, avoiding offenses and cultivating merit. 4. I should cause them to know world-transcending wholesome karma and cultivate practices of renunciation. 5. I should cause them to know all the practices and fruits of the two vehicles. 6. I should cause them to know the sublime characteristics of the practices and fruits of the Mahāyāna. 7. I should cause them to know the demarcations of the bodhisattva stages, namely the ten directional aspirations, etc. 8. I should cause them to know the practices that a bodhisattva ought to practice, namely what should be done, what should not be done, etc. 9. I should cause them to know the inconceivable realms of the Buddha-fruit's spiritual powers and liberations, causing them to generate aspiration and desire [for them], etc. 10. I should cause them to know the Dharma-realm's Dharma-doors of the equality and unobstructedness of the ultimate and conventional.
