A person of clarity has strong patience and wisdom, / and is able to uphold such Dharma as this. / Before realizing the Buddha Way, / how can one peacefully attain the five kinds of benefit? / First, the Buddhas of the ten directions / mindfully protect them with compassion. / Second, at the time of death, / one's mind rejoices with right view. / Third, wherever one is born life after life, / one has pure bodhisattvas as companions. / Fourth, a mass of merit is gathered, / and the perfections of morality are all fulfilled. / Fifth, in this present and future lives, / one's natural precepts, merit, and wisdom become full. / This is the realm of the Buddha's practice; / the wise should consider it well. / Those who grasp at a self and cling to characteristics / cannot believe in this Dharma; / those who realize [nirvāṇa] through complete cessation / are also not a field in which to plant the seed. / If one wishes to nurture the sprout of bodhi / to illuminate the world with its radiance, / one should quietly contemplate / the true mark of all phenomena: / neither arising nor ceasing, / neither permanent nor annihilated, / neither identical nor different, / neither coming nor going. / Thus within this one mind, / diligently adorn it with skillful means. / Whatever a bodhisattva should do, / one should study in proper sequence. / Toward those in training and those beyond training, / do not give rise to discriminative thoughts. / This is called the supreme path, / and is also called the Mahāyāna. / All evil of prapañca / is entirely extinguished from this source. / The sarvajñatā of all Buddhas / all emerges from this place. / Therefore, disciples of the Buddha, / you should give rise to great courage and vigor. / As for the pure precepts of all Buddhas, / protect and uphold them like a bright jewel. / The bodhisattvas of the past / have already trained in this; / those of the future will train in it, / and those of the present are training in it now. / This is the realm of the Buddha's practice, / praised by the Holy Lord. / I have spoken in accord with it; / the immeasurable mass of merits / I dedicate as a gift to sentient beings. / Turning together toward omniscience, / I vow that all who hear this Dharma / will swiftly attain the Buddha Way.
