Regarding "the seventeenth name is 'Dharma Gate'," from above it has clarified the Buddha vehicle. The Buddha vehicle is complete with ten thousand virtues, which is why it distinguishes immeasurable virtues. Now it clarifies that since the virtues are already immeasurable, the texts are also immeasurable. Therefore, the passage below says, "expounding this Lotus Sūtra in verses like the sands of the Ganges"; it is also as the "Medicine King Chapter" says, "eight hundred thousand million nayutas of bimbaras and other verses." The "Medicine King Chapter" refers to them as verses (gāthā), while here it clarifies ślokas; śloka can also be translated as verse, or it can be a different name. This is fully explained in the Commentary on the Lotus Sūtra. In foreign lands it is sometimes called shoulou, and sometimes called shulujia; it is merely that their pronunciations differ. Question: Why is it called a shoulou verse? Answer: Shoulou is a general term for verse. According to the counting method in foreign lands, whether prose or verse, both are called shoulou; hence it does not pick out a specific verse form.
