論主所以具十七種名者，總解一部經名。若解此十七種名，則識一部《法華》意盡。蓋是慈悲之心，令人聞少而悟於多意也。

The reason the treatise author provides seventeen kinds of names is to explain the title of the entire sūtra as a whole. If one understands these seventeen kinds of names, one will completely comprehend the purport of the entire Lotus Sūtra. This is indeed out of a compassionate mind, wishing to make people hear little and awaken to many meanings.
