《大本》文云「必應見此希有之相」故。今將示現種種瑞相，此出文殊過去曾見諸佛種種瑞相也。彼彼事者，過去諸佛種種瑞相有為事也。如彼瑞相現沒住滅應知者，過去諸佛有現在者、有沒者、有住者、有滅盡者。應知者，令大眾知過去如斯等事，故云應知。

The text of the *Larger Version* says: "Must have seen these rare signs." Now, stating "displaying various auspicious signs" reveals that Mañjuśrī in the past had seen the various auspicious signs of the Buddhas. "Those various events" refers to the conditioned events of the various auspicious signs of past Buddhas. "In accordance with the characteristics of those signs, their appearance, disappearance, abiding, and cessation should be known": among past Buddhas, there were those currently present, those who disappeared, those who remained, and those who attained complete cessation. "Should be known" means causing the great assembly to know such matters of the past; hence it says "should be known."
