今教明佛解脫與二乘解脫異，正以今疑昔。今說若異昔云，不應言不異。昔說若不異今，不應言異也。而言生因中疑者，教是理因，於教生疑言因中疑也。雖是今昔互疑，而正執昔疑於今教。

The present teaching clarifies that the Buddha's liberation is different from the liberation of the two vehicles; they precisely use the present to doubt the past: if the present exposition is different, the past should not have said they were not different; if the past exposition was not different, the present should not say they are different. As for saying 'giving rise to doubt regarding the cause', the teaching is the cause of the principle; giving rise to doubt regarding the teaching is called 'doubting regarding the cause'. Although it is a mutual doubt between the present and the past, they primarily cling to the past to doubt the present teaching.
