小乘如乳、大乘如醍醐故。此譬喻唯明大乘無上，諸聲聞等亦同大乘無上義故。聲聞同者，此中示現諸佛如來法身之性，同諸凡夫、聲聞人、辟支佛等法身平等無差別故。

"Because the Small Vehicle is like milk and the Great Vehicle is like clarified butter. This parable only clarifies that the Great Vehicle is unsurpassable, because the śrāvakas and so forth are also identical to the unsurpassable meaning of the Great Vehicle. As for the śrāvakas being identical: herein it manifests that the nature of the dharmakāya of the Buddhas, the Tathāgatas, is equal and without distinction from the dharmakāya of ordinary beings, śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and so forth."
