3.17

若往佛所，知佛者有示現教化眾生之力，便不取小果。今遂不往佛所，便取小果，失化物之力也。

If he had gone to the Buddha's place and known that the Buddha possesses the power to demonstrate teaching and transforming sentient beings, he would not have seized the small fruit. Now, having ended up not going to the Buddha's place, he seized the small fruit and lost the power to transform beings.
