八生一生者，謂諸凡夫決定能證初地，隨力隨分乃八生乃至一生證初地故。
[Treatise:] "As for 'eight rebirths and a single rebirth', it means that all ordinary beings are definitively able to realize the first bhūmi, and according to their strength and their share, in eight rebirths down to a single rebirth they realize the first bhūmi."
