Within what is to be counteracted: first, it indicates the section heading of the mind of adhimāna claiming to have merits that one actually lacks. From "because of possessing mundane contaminated" onward, it explains the section heading. These people attain contaminated absorption and, where there is actually no nirvāṇa, conceive the notion of nirvāṇa. These can be of two kinds of people: 1. those within the Buddhist path, as the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* (*Dazhidu lun*) states, "There was a monk who, upon attaining the first dhyāna, claimed to have attained the first fruit, up to claiming to have attained the fourth fruit upon attaining the fourth dhyāna"; 2. non-Buddhists who attain the two absorptions of neither-perception and non-perception, and claim they are nirvāṇa. As for "thus grasping invertedly": claiming that there is nirvāṇa where there is actually no nirvāṇa is called grasping invertedly. Furthermore, claiming that it is uncontaminated when it is actually contaminated is called grasping invertedly.
